DUNCANVILLE, TEXAS. Duncanville is south of the junction between Interstate Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 67 in south-western Dallas County. Settlement started when Crawford Trees came from Illinois in 1845 and bought several thousand acres south of Camp Dallas. In 1855, Trees donated land to the Little Bethel Male and Female School, which also served as a church building until 1881, when citizens built the Union Hall House. The Chicago, Texas, and Mexican Central Railway reached the area in 1880 and built Duncan Switch, named for a line foreman. Charles P. Nance, the first postmaster of the community, renamed the Duncanville settlement in 1882. In 1883, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe purchased the railroad and installed telegraph poles and lines. The Farmers Gin and the Farmers Bank opened in the early 1900s. Between 1904 and 1933, Duncanville's population increased from 113 to over 300. Fearing annexation by nearby Dallas, on August 2, 1947, inhabitants of Duncanville integrated a 225-acre town. When the town population reached 5,000 in 1962, residents embraced a home-rule charter with council-manager town government. Duncanville has evolved as a suburb of Dallas.
