1.Avoid towing too heavy loads
Before you tow be sure to not exceed the recommended weight
limit for your vehicle, even when your vehicle is meant for towing. Some cars
are not made for towing, so those cars should avoid heavy towing. When a
transmission exceeds its weight limit, it may overheat the transmission due to
the excessive strain it puts on the transmission.
2.Don’t drive rough
Rough driving is the reason for many damaged
transmissions. When people shift gears
at high RPMs or accelerate too hard, it may result in a severely damaged
transmission. It is best to drive with moderate acceleration, not too fast or
too slow.
3.Completely stop before shifting gears
You can cause bad damage to your gears by shifting gears
while your vehicle is still moving. Rushing to shift from reverse to drive or
drive to reverse may crack or chip gear, or in severe cases, cause your gear to
explode. An exploded gear can cause further damage by effecting parts within
the transmission, which in turn may completely ruin transmission.
4.Regular car maintenance
It is easy to skip regular car maintenance, but doing so may
be the cause of damaged engines and transmissions. It is important to be car
smart by ensuring regular car maintenance. Keep up with transmission fluid and
oil changes. Also, be mindful of your cooling system, if your coolant gets too
low it can overheat your engine and transmission. If your car seems to be
acting different, such as, trouble shifting or RPMs revving, bring it in to the
shop get diagnosed as soon as possible. Ignoring small problems may cause more
serious problems.
