What are the Most Common Transmission Services?

Transmission services are considered part of your vehicle’s routine car maintenance. It is like an oil change for your engine. Depending on your car needs there are various types of transmission services available.

Transmission Fluid Check:

Checking the transmission fluid is a service you can perform on your own. Check your transmission fluid consists of popping your hood, while the engine is still warm and locate the transmission fluid dipstick. If you’re not sure of its location, check your owner’s manual for details. Pull the dipstick out of its holder and check your fluid levels. If the level is below the recommended full marker on the dipstick, you should top it off. While checking the fluid levels, also check the fluid itself.
Good Automatic Transmission fluid is typically reddish in color and has little odor. If the fluid tends to be quite strong and has a bunt smell, there could be something more serious going on in your transmission’s internal components. The right amount of quality transmission fluid is important to cool and lubricate your transmission. It is recommended to check the fluid levels and the condition of the fluid itself once a month.

Transmission Fluid Service:

If your transmission fluid is opaque and smells burnt, then it’s degraded and needs to be flushed out. It’s wise to bring it in for a transmission service to remove the old fluid and replace it with new clean fluid.

Transmission Reseals:

The most obvious sign of a transmission fluid or oil leak is a fluid puddle underneath your vehicle while it’s parked. Depending on the size of the leak, reseal jobs can be repaired easily or could be more involved.

On-Board Diagnostics (OBD):

Modern vehicles have an electronic system that provides vehicle self-diagnosis and reporting capabilities for automobile technicians. This subsystem information gives the technicians access to performance monitoring and aids in analyzing repair needs helping in pinpointing the problems.

Pan Inspection:

Examining the transmission pan can help point to any potential problems as it permits a partial look at the internals of the transmission. Excessive amounts of metal are signs of transmission damage from internal wear.

Lift Inspections:

A lift inspection may be recommended in complex issues. This will enable the

technicians to inspect a variety of different components.
